Dementia Care

What is dementia?

Dementia is a general term used to describe a group of symptoms related to the decline in cognitive functions, such as memory, thinking, and reasoning, to the extent that it interferes with a person’s ability to perform everyday activities. It is important to note that dementia is not a specific disease but rather a set of symptoms associated with various underlying conditions.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia, accounting for a significant percentage of cases. Other types of dementia include vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, and frontotemporal dementia, among others.

Common symptoms of dementia include memory loss, difficulty in solving problems, confusion, language problems, and changes in mood and behaviour. Dementia primarily affects older adults, but it is not a normal part of the aging process. Early diagnosis and appropriate care are crucial for managing the symptoms and providing support to individuals and their families affected by dementia.
